The Flood of 1966 - L'alluvione del 1966

In November 1966, only a few months after having opened our store, we were hit by the flood of the Arno river. This natural disaster killed many people and damaged or destroyed millions of masterpieces of art and rare books in Florence. It is considered the worst flood in the city's history since 1557.

If you come and visit our store, you can still see a sign with the level reached by the water, as it is shown in the picture below.

Nel novembre del 1966, pochi mesi dopo l'apertura del nostro negozio, la città di Firenze è stata colpita dalla peggiore alluvione nella storia della città dopo il 1557. Questa catastrofe naturale uccise molte persone e danneggiò o distrusse milioni di opere d'arte e di libri antichi.

Nel nostro negozio è ancora possibile vedere una targhetta che mostra il livello raggiunto dall'acqua, come illustrato nella foto qui sotto.
